The water-cooled RGS Adventure model features a massive fuel tank that gives the bike an amazing fuel range but is also vulnerable to denting and damage with its wide, aluminum construction. Made of strong, 1" thick stainless steel tubing, these extensions brace to the GS's frame in two places, as well as bolting with discreet, laser-cut clamps to the original BMW upper bars.

These bars are engineered to distribute the force of an impact to the frame, protecting your tank and bodywork in the event of a fall. The stylish design also accents the rugged look of the GSA, while not being too distracting. Easy to install, these bars bolt-on quickly using precision clamps that mount to existing points on the bike.

KostikApr 7, I know that Touratech and Altrider both claim this bar can bend and break the valve cover, my BMW dealer claims the other bars that bolt to the engine can cause engine damage. I don't ride off-road alone so I'm not worried about being stranded alone with a broken valve cover miles from the nearest sign of civilization. Would anyone recommend switching to the much beloved Altrider crash bars? JPG File size: ErikMotoManApr 7, Can't answer your specific question don't you hate it when people immediately veer off on a tangent promoting their personal agenda?

But I am unhappy with the OEM bars developing surface rust and not too pleased with them covering up the spark plug access. Two weeks ago, I was severely injured when I got rear ended. Broke my left femur and the bike was totaled. However, while the RH OEM bar appears to have been partially flattened, it did its job: There's no major damage to the motor. So, my dilemma is : do I buy 1 new OEM bar or a set of something else? Kostik likes this. ADV Sponsors. BillApr 7, I crashed pretty hard. I pulled them out best I could with an ATV and winch.

I doubt it. Jeremy is a pretty sharp dude. Also a pic showing the "new" late crash bar bumpers. FastmanApr 8, Why just not add the Touratech crash bar reinforcements to the OEMbars? Not like tight. I look install instructions they did what they sud. And basically it has some free move just to prevent crash-bar coming inward. I have the TT reinforcement bars and they should be tight.

There are several washers supplied with the bars to compensate for the frame being maybe a mm off. Once mounted they should not move at all.

It looks like whoever installed them omitted a washer here and there ADV Sponsors. Guessing its just another way for TT to reach deeper to your pocket to make up for their shortcomings.

Touratech Crash Bar Brace Installation

Just want to make sure it is worth the money. SCflyerDec 21, I have them and for me went of fine and no major crashes but good so far. Others have had issues with install and may not work with some cylinder head guards. ADV Sponsors. Zone1FireDec 21, Joined: May 2, Oddometer: Location: Denver. Haven't utilized them yet, but they definetly fit snugly. Have used them in wind blown tip over and no damage to crash bars ensued.

Also, it is not required to remove them from the crashbars to remove the crashbars from the bike, which is good because they do fit snugly! I have the oem cylinder guards also.

Hope it fits. The OEM is Touratech. Work great. Highly recommend. RunninRangernagold and KiwiKurt like this. LittleWigglerDec 22, They work very well in the rough stuff when off 2 wheels. I can see the potential for keeping the stock bars from bending in on a laydown. Had mine powdercoated along with the stock bars before mounting The stock steel is not very hard and easily bends in. Even at a normal stand still drop. With these, it can't. I had a lowside recently and these bars held everything in place.
